The new version is the first major release since July 2017 (our last review of LockHunter dates back to 2009) it features a new user interface, option to unlock multiple files, drag & drop support, and more. However, there might be situations when a file or a folder is impossible to unlock, such as when a file is part of the operating system and cannot be erased without damaging Windows. The developers of LockHunter, a handy tool to unlock locked files on Windows PCs, have released version 3.3.4 of the application. With LockHunter, you can check processes that keep a file or a folder locked and terminate them or delete that particular file entirely. However, please keep in mind that this application does not make it possible to delete any file on the system and that there might be other reasons why getting rid of the file is not allowed. With the click of a button, you can terminate the locking processes and delete them from disk. With LockHunter, you can then unlock a file, delete or rename it. LockHunter displays information about the location of the locking processes by default, but you can also see the process ID and the command line parameters. Alternatively, you can browse for a file or a directory. To find the name of the process that is keeping a file or a folder locked, you must enter its name in the upper form. Unlock and delete files or terminate locking processes For instance, here is where we discovered that LockHunter features shell integration in Windows, allowing you to easily check which process or application is keeping a file locked. The GUI welcomes you with usage hints that allow you to get acquainted with the application. Any type of program can lock output folder and/or files in it, examples: Windows Explorer. If there was to describe LockHunter in a single word, that would probably be “easy-to-use". I created a folder KiraUnlockCLI opened command prompt moved to KiraUnlockCLI in it ( cd KiraUnlockCLI) KiraUnlockCLI locked: I need unlock or delete KiraUnlockCLI programmatically. Whichever you choose, the interface and usage is the same but, as expected, the portable tool requires no installation and is ready to go as soon as you double-click on its executable file. There are two flavors available: a standard installer one and a portable archive. LockHunter is specifically designed to lend you a helping hand in such cases. Future plans We are planning to release the stable version soon and add portable version, multilanguage support and of course fix bugs that will be found in this beta. This is when you get that annoying popup window telling you that the requested operation cannot be completed because the file is open in another application. Normally, when the file is no longer in use, it is automatically unlocked, but there might be times when this operation is unsuccessful. Context menu integration for easy access There are two flavors available: a standard installer one and a portable archive. I would be very careful what you say about my vendor being out to lunch because Eset's Nod32 also detects this as malicious and alot of the moderators and users on Slysoft use Nod32.Files that are used by a process or an application is Windows are set to a locked state, meaning you cannot modify, delete or move them to a different location. LockHunter is specifically designed to lend you a helping hand in such cases. The fact that the action of adding files in an overt or covert fashion is irrellevant at this point. I would argue that adding files that are potentially unwanted IS malicious within itself. Different anti-malware vendors do different things. Adware is different to what Spyware and other stuff like trojans etc do. Saying its not malicious is a little misleading. So people are going to think differently about the situation, saying that, there are alot of people who drive very carelessly and DO ignore signs. But if you ignore a road sign then there is the possibility of killing yourself and others. If you install something malicious the worst thing that is going to happen is that your identity and money may be stolen. I think comparing the installation of software to driving a car is a rather rubbish comparison as the two things are totally different. Saying a person is an idiot if they install something without reading is rather harsh, I agree that it is a rather silly thing to do but in reality most users on the internet would do just that, click right through every screen just to get it installed as fast as possible. I don't know about you but I would consider myself to be tech savvy or an expert user. I'm not certain why you find "tech Savvy" funny
